Live Blog: 2016-17 Ligue 1 Week 38

AS Monaco have won the 2016-17 Ligue 1 title and will most likely take it easy on Week 38 of this season, scheduled for Saturday, May 20, as this will be their last match of the year away to Stade Rennais FC. However, there are some clubs who won't take it easy. One of them is Paris Saint-Germain, who have a cup final to prepare for on May 27. This weekend, PSG host relegation-threatened SM Caen at the Parc des Princes and this will be, of course, our featured match in this Live Blog on the Stoppage Time. Other clubs, besides, Caen, are sweating it out. Olympique de Marseille can affirm their place in European competition next season with a win at home to SC Bastia, who will be heading to Ligue 2 with a loss. A massive upset by the Corsicans will ensure a miraculous survival. FC Lorient are in position for the playoffs but a Bastia win and a loss at home to Bordeaux (who will be in the Europa League alongside Marseille if PSG defend their Coupe de France) will see them relegated. And even if AS Nancy defeat slumping Saint-Etienne at home, the best they can do is the playoffs after winning Ligue 2 last season. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. PT/3 p.m. ET. Our live blog begins at 10 a.m. PT/1 p.m. ET. Keep it right here on The Stoppage Time, powered by Azteca Soccer, for more world football news. Live Blog: 2016-17 Ligue 2 Week 38

This year's Ligue 2 title race has gone down to the wire. Six teams are withing four points of each other but only two can move up directly while one more will have to battle to move up through a two-legged playoff. Strasbourg, Amiens, Troyes, Lens, Brest and Nimes are the six teams in the hunt for promotion. As for Strasbourg, they need a win to take the league crown. Anything worse, and they can only hope for results to go in their favor to move up to Ligue 2. Amiens and Troyes will hope for a slip up from the league leaders, while the other three must win out and get help as none of the top six face each on this important match day, Week 38 of the 2016-17 Ligue 2 season, sponsored by Domino's. Yes, that's right, Domino's, one of America's top pizza chains. Live Blog: AS Monaco vs. AS Saint-Etienne

The Principality of Monaco, governed by the House of Grimaldi and the world-famous Prince Albert, is no stranger to hosting parties custom-built and custom-made for the rich and famous. Every day and night, there seems to be a big occasion that gets the blood of the jet set pumping and the panygyrics of excess are the unwritten law of this smal enclave, located on the Cote d'Azur, the French Riviera, near Italy but surrounded by France. Monaco does have a national football team. It is a member of the Confederation of Independent Football Associations (ConIFA). However, there is but one true national team in Monaco, and that is Association Sportive de Monaco Football Club, or AS Monaco for short, managed by Portugal's Leonardo Jardim. Its won seven Ligue 1 titles, but the last time Monaco won Ligue 1 was back in 2000. On Wednesday, May 17, another big occasion awaits as the Hexagoal heads south from Paris, and the Paris Saint-Germain Football. A long and storied wait will finally come to an end as the Monegasques take on Christophe Galtier's AS Saint-Etienne at the national stadium of the principality, the Stade Louis II. It is a makeup match for the Week 31 clash that could not get off the ground due to the Coupe de La Ligue. The timing of the rescheduling ensures that this is a midweek coronation party you don't want to miss. Join The Stoppage Time columnist Jo-Ryan Salazar as he looks back at Monaco's magical season and the future of the club going forward. Will the heart of this year's team stay at the Stade Louis II? Or will bigger, better and brighter names pounce on this gargantuan feast on the Blue Coast by season's end? Our Live Blog starts at 9 a.m. PT/12 p.m. ET. Live Blog: AS Saint-Etienne vs. Paris Saint-Germain

The 2016-17 Ligue 1 crown may be the only domestic trophy that Unai Emery's Paris Saint-Germain that eludes them if overall form is to be believed. But with the Coupe de France Final at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis looming, the time has come for the Parisians to put their best foot forward and ensure themselves that they will be the best-performing French top division team actually based in France. To do so, they must manage the game better against Christophe Galtier's AS Saint-Etienne, who acquitted themselves well in their 1-1 draw with PSG at the Parc des Princes earlier this season. A more authoritative effort will send a strong message to Stephane Moulin's Angers SCO along the lines of, "We may not be Champions of France, but we remain the best-performing Ligue 1 team based in France and we're going to pass Marseille for most French Cups so you've been warned, mon freres." Okay, maybe not along the lines of such brash bravado as that, but the many setbacks that PSG have had on the road have forced the Rouge et Bleu to exhibit humility and respect and dignity for the game, their opponents, and especially themselves. This season is, without a doubt, a huge step back and in this contest, expect those on the fringe to be fighting for their futures with this proud sports organization, as bleak as it may be along the lines of Zimbabwe. Our live blog begins at 10 a.m. PT/1 p.m. ET. Kickoff is at 12 p.m. PT/3 p.m. ET and will also feature occasional updates from all the action across the league, including that of Leonardo Jardim's AS Monaco, and a clear-cut chance to clinch the title ahead of their presumed title-clinching party/home tie in the posh principality with Saint-Etienne...with a plain and possible pasting of Franck Passi's Lille OSC in the shadow true of the Stade Louis II. Live Blog: 2016-17 A-League Grand Final

The A-League is the premier association football club competition in Australia and New Zealand. Sponsored since its inception by Hyundai, the A-League Grand Final is the league showcase event. The Sydney Football Club is managed by Graham Arnold and have been clinical in the home-and-away season, losing only once to run away with the Premiership Plate. The Melbourne Victory Football Club is managed by former team captain Kevin Muscat and finished a respectable second in a league whose talent base continues to improve to the point where it is comparable to Major League Soccer in its mix of competent overseas talent and local rising stars. The Grand Final takes place on Sunday night at the confines of the Sydney Football Stadium, known under sponsorship as Allianz Stadium, located in the Eastern Suburbs of the largest city in Australia, Sydney. Also known as the home of the Sydney Roosters of the National Rugby League, Allianz Stadium has been a fortress for the Sky Blues and this weekend's Grand Final is sure to bring fans from around Sydney, from the neighboring state of Victoria and across the country, as two clubs who have been among the most storied in the competition battle for the A-League Championship Ring, a trophy designed to be shaped like a laurel wreath. Both Sydney FC and Melbourne Victory have already qualified for the 2018 AFC Champions League Group Stage so this match can be seen as a glorified litmus test in terms of their success against the best in East Asia and elsewhere. This is the Big Blue, the premier rivalry in the competition between two proud sporting cities whose enmity and ties run deep, richly woven in the history of one of the best sporting nations in the world. The 2016-17 Hyundai A-League Grand Final begins at 12 a.m. PT/3 a.m. ET on Sunday, but the Stoppage Time's Live Blog of this match begins on Saturday, May 6 at 8 p.m. PT/11 p.m. ET. Live Blog: OGC Nice vs. Paris Saint-Germain

The last high-profile test of the year for Unai Emery's Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1 play to close out the month of April takes place on Apr. 30 at the Allianz Riviera when they face Lucien Favre's OGC Nice. Both teams have sewn up berths in the UEFA Champions League but Paris are still hoping to close the gap on AS Monaco, although the title race isn't exactly in their hands anymore. PSG are coming off a 5-0 victory over a Monaco side that rested its main men in the Coupe de France semifinals at the Parc des Princes. "This 100th edition of the competition means a lot to us," said Emery. "If we win in the final, it will be the club's 11th time winning this trophy. That's why our objective was so clear tonight: beat Monaco in front of our fans. The team turned in a complete performance, and we deserve our place at the Stade de France against Angers. We hope to win this title and really enjoy it with our fans. Angers are having a good run. We played them pretty recently and it was a tough match. They deserve their place at the Stade de France and the final will doubtless be a hotly contested affair." "The team attacked the match well," said Marquinhos of their midweek efforts. "Tonight, we had one desire: book our place in the final. We wanted to win in style so we could keep making progress and keep growing in confidence. With this final berth, it means we can still win another two titles, including the league crown. We're very happy to be heading back to the Stade de France, but we still have a bit of time before the final. Tonight, I also managed to score. I found myself in the ideal position and all I had to do was tap into an empty net. It's always a pleasure to score!" "We got the job done tonight, which is to say that we won. We were good; we scored five goals," said Thiago Motta, who now has 200 matches under his belt for Paris Saint-Germain. "We're very happy to have the chance to play in another final. Now we need to rest well and look ahead to

Live Blog: Paris Saint-Germain vs. AS Monaco

This is the final before the 2016-17 Coupe De France final, for all it's worth. The final showdown of the year between the two best sides in French club football. Unai Emery's Paris Saint-Germain are the defending Coupe de France champions, but that will be put to the test as Leonardo Jardim's AS Monaco look to inch one step closer to a history-defining treble. The matchup is on April 26, 2017 at the Parc des Princes in Paris. "We earned an important three points in front of our fans for the championship," said Emery of their last match, a 2-0 shutout win at home to Montpellier HSC. "I think it was a very open match, very attacking and nice for the fans to watch. I think we controlled the game well, for the full 90 minutes and we deserved the victory." "We were the better team, even if we sometimes lost our balance," said Maxwell. "We controlled the game better in the second half with more possession. We created more chances, but the important thing was to win. Our confidence remains high. We did what we needed to do and we are winning our games. We don't know if that puts more pressure on Monaco. But they are having a great season and should be congratulated." "Every match is difficult and tonight we played a very good Montpellier side," said Blaise Matuidi. "We did what we needed to do to score twice and not concede. That's important. We continue on our winning ways and we happy with the victory." "The most important thing was to win and play well," added Angel Di Maria. "We knew that Montpellier would have chances on the counterattack, but that we would also have opportunities to score. The most important thing was to take those chances that came our way and play our football. We scored when we had the chance and that's why we won." Live Blog: Paris Saint-Germain vs. Montpellier HSC

A key warmup match for Unai Emery's Paris Saint-Germain ahead of their Coupe de France semifinal tilt with Leonardo Jardim's AS Monaco takes place on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Parc des Princes against Jean-Louis Gasset's Montpellier HSC. Paris will look to avenge one of its heaviest defeats of the season, a toothless 3-0 shutout loss away to Montpellier on the road. After nearly losing 3-2 to FC Metz, PSG prevailed away to Philippe Hinschberger's side by that exact scoreline on Tuesday. If Paris are to prepare well for what is essentially the final before the final in the 2016-17 Coupe de France, a dominating, a more convincing performance at Le Parc will be needed to ensure that the pressure remains on the league leaders heading into the final weekend in April. "We controlled 80% of the game," said Emery of their effort against Metz. "In the end, the result is good for us. Our aim was to use the confidence that we have to hold on to the result and create more of a difference. But our opponents play too and can score at any moment. The Metz fans pushed after the first goal, which led to the second. At that moment, we needed to play with heart in the final minutes to get the three points. The team played the last four minutes with the attitude that we wanted to win. What we have to retain is that we mustn't let our opponents back into the match." "It's true we could have had a very different result," said the hero of the match away to Metz, PSG midfielder Blaise Matuidi. "In the first half, we deserved better. In the second, we didn't do what we should have done and were punished. I'm happy to have scored, it keeps us moving on. We don't give up on anything, that's the most important thing. But we mustn't give ourselves a fright like that." Your matchday hashtags are #PSGMHSC and #Ligue1. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 a.m. PT/11 a.m. ET. Our Live Blog begins at 6 a.m. PT/9 a.m. ET. Live Blog: FC Metz vs. Paris Saint-Germain

Unai Emery's Paris Saint-Germain will have to deaL without their own support for the second of two straight away matches. PSG are away to Philippe Hinschberger's FC Metz at the Stade Saint-Symphorien. Paris currently have a 23-5-4 record (74 points) but even if they win as expected on the road, Monaco have a superior goal differential and have a game in hand. As for Metz, they are battling relegation and while a loss will not affect their current standing on the table (they are 9-9-14, 36 points), they will have a nervous home stretch coming if they don't pull off an upset victory at home in what should be a packed house on Tuesday.
