Live Blog: 2016 FIFA Club World Cup Final

The 2016 FIFA Club World Cup Final pits Zinedine Zidane's Real Madrid Club de Fútbol of Madrid, Spain against Masatada Ishii's Kashima Antlers of Kashima, Japan at the International Stadium Yokohama for the right to be named world champion for the 2016 calendar year on Dec. 18. “Even in friendly games and in training [Cristiano Ronaldo] is highly motivated,” said Zidane. “Ronaldo is a very motivated player. There are many players in the world and it is very rare that one player can win so many awards. Winning a fourth Ballon d’Or is not something that you can achieve easily. What he is doing now is wonderful, and maybe he deserves a fifth Ballon d’Or. The hardest thing is the distance and the jet lag, because it’s a long way to Japan. Physically it will be difficult so we need to get up to speed, but we’ve been here for two days and I think we are ready. We are Real Madrid and we will always be Real Madrid. We are focused on the next match and that is our mission.” “It doesn’t matter who we play. We haven’t won anything yet,” Kashima's Daigo Nishi said. “But I think it’s fitting Kashima Antlers were the first Asian team to get to the final.” “I know there are a lot of Real fans in Japan, but I hope they will be rooting for Kashima because we will be playing for the entire country,” Antlers trigger man Shoma Doi said. Live Blog: MLS Cup 2016

This is it, the moment we've all been waiting for. It's MLS Cup 2016, the showpiece event of the 2016 Major League Soccer season. It is the story of two clubs who have gone through many shortcomings and setbacks only to resurge and find their purpose in the premier club competition in the United States and Canada. It's a battle between Greg Vanney's Toronto Football Club and Brian Schmetzer's Seattle Sounders Football Club, in the cold and icy confines of BMO Field in Toronto, Ont. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET. Our live blog starts at high noon, 12 p.m. PT/3 p.m. ET. Keep it right here on The Stoppage Time, powered by Azteca Soccer, for more world football news. Live Blog: Toronto FC vs. Montreal Impact

Three days ago, in the Canadian Football League, a massive upset took place at BMO Field in Toronto, Ont. when the Ottawa REDBLACKS gave Canada's national capital its first Grey Cup in four decades with one of the greatest upsets in the history of that competition against the Calgary Stampeders. From gridiron to soccer pitch Mauro Biello's Montreal Impact, the No. 6 seed in the Major League Soccer Eastern Conference, have a chance to make some history of their own and lay an upset over the favorite, Greg Vanney's Toronto FC at this same venue on Wednesday, Nov. 30. However, Toronto FC only lost to the Impact, 3-2 in the first leg and need a simple 1-0 win or a two-goal victory in any form to progress. Should they finally turn the tide in their own back yard, BMO Field will have distinct honor of hosting a Grey Cup Final and an MLS Cup Final within the span of two weeks. It would also be the first MLS Cup Final hosted at BMO Field since 2010. But if the Impact hold on to their advantage and even build on it, they would get honor of traveling to the West Coast and one of the loudest, rowdiest, passionate, energy-filled atmospheres you will ever find in this competition. Brian Schmetzer's Seattle Sounders had already disposed of the Colorado Rapids 3-1 on aggregate, winning both legs, and a Montreal win will ensure Seattle of hosting its first MLS Cup since 2009, one year prior to BMO Field hosting. Finally, national bragging rights are on the line on Wednesday. Toronto FC have already won the Canadian Championship and will be in the CONCACAF Champions League next season. However, Montreal will be sure to put that reputation to the test and it is up to the Reds to confirm that they are the best Canadian team in Major League Soccer this year.
