Hello good afternoon and welcome to another day in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations which has so far proved to be a tough battle for the so-called big teams. After yesterday’s giant killing feat of Benin over Morocco, there is a general acceptance that no team can be underestimated. Today, there are two big games which should capture the imagination of all. First of the games will be what many have dubbed ‘the final before the final’ as two super powers, Nigeria and Cameroon face off for a place in the quarter-finals.
Live Updates: Morocco vs Benin Our coverage of the knockout phase of the 2019 AFCON begins with the match Morocco and Benin. High flying Morocco amassed nine points to reach this stage unlike their opponents who drew all their group games.
Pressure is mounting on the Stars to deliver after two successive draws against Cameroon and Benin and despite a draw being enough to carry them through, the Black Stars must win today to ease the pressure back home.
Algeria is the only team in the group that has their place in the next round confirmed and Senegal and Kenya will have to battle it out for qualification. Kenya have never scored a goal against Senegal in AFCON in three previous meetings and have only managed a draw and lost twice.
Hello and thanks for joining us as we wrap up our coverage of Group D with the match between Ivory Coast and Namibia. The 30 June Stadium is the centre of action as the Elephants look to bully their way into the round of 16 stage.
Group B has been decided. Madagascar and Nigeria are through to the next stage of the tournament. Next on our lineup is the match between hosts, Egypt and the Cranes of Uganda in Group A.
The last round matches of the Group phase of the 2019 AFCON begin today with hosts, Egypt and three-time champions Nigeria in action. Both countries have already qualified to the next round but they have their glory and perfect record to protect when they meet Madagascar and Uganda in their respective group matches.
Two years ago, Cameroon defeated Ghana 2-0 en-route their fifth Africa Cup title. Today the two nations clash in what could be a revenge for Ghana or repeat for Cameroon. It’s a meeting of two of Africa’s football powerhouses with nine AFCON titles between them. While Cameroon’s last title came two years ago, Ghana’s fourth and last title was won exactly 37 years ago.
