Vice is doing some of the most exciting and original news reporting there is right now. Yes, that Vice, the one that made a name for itself with its acerbic Dos and Don'ts section and the like. Their Russian Roulette series, for example, is exactly what great journalism is all about: it's insightful, fearless and right in the thick of it. And Vice is proving that free online content - whether it be about global affairs, music, technology, sport or many of the other things it covers - can be lucrative. This Friday, "journalist, internaut, information activist and gonzo political theorist" Asher Wolf will be holding a special Q+A with students from RMIT's Online Journalism course. She'll go over how she broke some of the year's biggest stories for the likes of The Guardian and the ABC. These stories included: - an Immigration Department's data lapse which meant the personal details of asylum seekers' were available online; and - a former Sri Lankan military officer managing the Manus Island detention centre, where Tamils were being kept.
