The nation’s highest court ruled in favor of same-sex marriage in a 5-4 decision which appeared to create a constitutional protection for gay marriage that did not previously exist. Chief Justice John Roberts and the courts’ three other conservative justices — Antonin Scalia, Samuel Alito, and Clarence Thomas — each wrote their own separate blistering dissenting opinions. In fact, Justice Scalia argued that the majority’s decision was a, "<strong><em>threat to American democracy."</em></strong> What disturbs Rev. Owens even more is that he believes, “The homosexual community has not shown all of what it's going to do,". He points to the 2013 law in California which allowed girls and boys to use the same showers and bathrooms in public schools. The president of CAAP suggests that the court’s decision will take America, “down a very immoral path.” The request for a new Christian Civil Rights Movement has been called for by Rev. Owens and other Christian leaders and faith community because of the ongoing threats to faith leaders and and Christianity. Of grave concern is that pastors had been the target of gay-rights activists due to their sermons concerning the Bible’s stance against gay marriage. To prevent that in Texas, Gov. Greg Abbott signed the “Pastor Protection Act" on June 25, according to theTexas Tribune. The law allows clergy members to refuse to conduct marriages that violate their beliefs; The bill gives ministers the freedom to exercise their First Amendment rights. Joining Standing at Freedom’s Gate host Kevin Fobbs to discuss CAAP’s civil disobedience actions against the gay marriage ruling and a new Christian civil rights movement will be Rev. Bill Owens, president of the Coalition of African-American Pastors.
