Live updates: Ebony’s final funeral rites

Funeral and burial service is being held for the late Ebony Reigns at the forecourt of the State House, Accra and we bring you live text coverage of the event. She will be laid in state for family, friends, colleagues in the industry, fans and sympathizers to take their turns to file past the body. Initially slated for Saturday, March 17 at the Black Star Square, the date and venue for Ebony’s final funeral rites had to be changed as a different entity had secured the grounds for its event. RuffTown Records, in collaboration with the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and Kasapreko Company Limited, organized a tribute concert yesterday which saw performances from Sarkodie, Edem, VIP, R2Bees, Edem, Kofi Kinaata, Samini, Kwabena Kwabena and several other musicians. It was aimed at raising money for Ebony’s foundation. Prior to this, the family and management of late Ebony had launched two clothes, ‘Maame Hwe’ and ‘Aseda’ for the funeral and thanksgiving services respectively. Judging from the huge attendance at her one week commemoration, thousands are expected to throng the venue today to pay their last respect to the dancehall diva. Born Priscilla Opoku Kwarteng, Ebony died in a collision on the Sunyani-Kumasi highway while returning to Accra after visiting her mother in Sunyani.
